Beaver Bay, Lake Superior
July 16th, 1865
To His Excellency Governor S. Miller
Saint Paul, Minn.
Dear Sir,
We have arrived this far down the Lake, the rivers for this last day or two have been too full of water for exploring much, but we have been seven miles back of the Lake; have discovered two or three Metal Bearing Veins, and are in great hopes of tracing the Iron Range of Vermillion to near the Lake Shore.
Have had plenty of rain for these last five weeks, one last week deluged the whole country, the mosquitoes and flies are almost unbearable.
I am
Your very Respectfully
Henry H. Eames
State Geologist
