Governor Marshall March 14, 1866 letter to Thomas Clark

March 14, 1866

Thomas Clark Esq.

Superior Wis.

Dr. Sir;

Your favor of 7th last is rec’d. The mining law of which you requested a copy is now in the hands of the printer. I will send you a copy when it is published.

In regard to the appointment of State Geologist, the legislature saved me the trouble by naming Mr. Eames in the bill continuing the office. I apprehend that Mr. E. or his friends engineered the bill, having perhaps some doubt about my appointing Mr. E. if the appointment was left to me.

I shall be glad to “renew acquaintance” as you term it, and hear from you at your convenience. I hope I shall get onto the lake sometime this spring or summer.

                                              Very truly yours,

                                              W. R. Marshall
