Hanchett's July 13, 1864 letter to Governor Miller

Saint Paul Minnesota,

July 13th 1864

His Excellency Gov. S. Miller,

Sir,

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of official instructions of the Executive department of State under date of 12th Inst. pertaining to the geological examination, and survey of the North Shore of Lake Superior within the limits of the State of Minnesota as by law provided.

In noting contents, among other important matters, a bond is prescribed securing the state in the custody, and judicious expenditure of moneys appropriated for the purposes of a geological Survey of the state, which said bond is to be made by the state geologist with one or more good sureties to be approved by your Excellency. I have the honor to state, that said bond will be executed at the earliest convenience of the Executur and that thereafter it will afford me pleasure to comply with instructions received, and enter upon the discharge of the duties imposed without delay.

I am Sir,

Very Respectfully

Your Obt. Servt.
