Why North Star Badger? Well, Minnesota's 'gophers' are really thirteen-lined ground squirrels used in an 1857 political cartoon celebrating corruption in the state's legislature. While 'badgers' were a reference to the lead mining of southwest Wisconsin - so at least they have an Earth science connection. And having been born on the 'wrong' side of the St. Croix, I am something of a displaced mustelid omnivore who found another home in our North Star state.
