Archaeological materials purchased from Powers

During the1885 World Cotton and Industrial Exposition in New Orleans, also known as the Cotton Centennial, Winchell purchased 226 archaeological items from ‘Powers’. At present, it is uncertain who, or what, Powers was. Winchell usually included initials or first names when referring to individuals who sold or donated samples to the General Museum, so it is possible that ‘Powers’ was a business or institute. However, the identity of ‘Powers’ remains unknown. All these materials were listed in Winchell’s list of ‘Archaeological Additions to the Museum in 1885’ in his 14th Annual Report for the year 1885.
