Grant of Lands to Minnesota.
Governor Sibley, with that wise discretion which has thus far characterized his administration, has taken prompt and efficient measures to secure to the State, the full benefits accruing from the liberal grants made to Minnesota in the enabling act.
Last week, under the direction of he Executive, an expedition was fitted out from this city, to select the ten sections of public lands appropriated to the State to aid in the erection of capital buildings, and also to select the twelve salt springs, with six sections of land attached to each, also donated by the terms of the enabling act. The Governor appointed as commissioners, Messrs. Jas. D. Skinner, civil engineer, of St. Paul, W. C. Johnson of Stillwater, and Robert Boyle, of Hastings. This party left last week, with instructions to proceed to the Forest City Land District, and after consultation with the land officers, make such selections, beyond the government surveys, as would best promote the interests of the State. We understand the location of two valuable salt springs has already been ascertained. – Pioneer
